Decaf has finally arrived, and it’s super good! This one tastes like plum and chocolate nougat with some caramel notes on the finish. It has more personality and fruitiness than I’ve ever tasted in a decaf. 

With the way things are currently moving in the coffee industry, there’s a lot one could say about decaf. In my opinion, drinking it no longer requires sacrificing flavor – yay! Two factors are the main contributors to great flavor here:

  1. This coffee is a pink bourbon variety. Known for being fruity and yummy-tasting, it is a direct relative to the first coffee plants in Ethiopia. 

  2. The beans are decaffeinated using ethyl acetate (aka E.A.), a naturally occurring enzyme from sugarcane and other fruits. After the coffee seeds are washed and dry-milled, they undergo a steaming process to open up their pores, preparing them for an E.A. bath where the enzyme attracts and draws out caffeine molecules. The coffee seeds are then re-dried and ready to go! This processing method usually produces traces of fruitiness, more than in other decaffeination methods.
