It’s been a while since I’ve had El Socorro in the shop. This is a welcome return of the yellow bourbon lot from the famous farm in Palencia, Guatemala! The 2024 harvest brings all the subtle goodness of previous years; a clean and soft acidic profile, similar to starfruit, gets things rolling. A hint of banana mingles in the background with the smooth, delicate notes of cashew. I am so happy to have this offering on the menu again; it was dearly missed!
Juan Diego de la Cerda, the owner of El Socorro, is a third-generation farmer who has a reputation for growing some of the most excellent coffees in Guatemala. He is known to grow many varieties of coffee on his farm, both more and less conventional ones, with some placing first in multiple Guatemalan Cup of Excellence competitions. His determination to maintain excellent standards at the farm level is evident with every new harvest. It is an honor to roast some of his coffee again, and it would not be possible without Terra Negra’s partnership.
