A bright and elegant cup from Juan Peña's Yacuri Farm, grown where the Andes meet the Amazon. We are thrilled to offer this in our lineup – it showcases how diverse growing terrains can affect a coffee variety's end expression in the cup. Expect balanced citrus notes, subtle florals, and deep sweetness. Apricot, pomelo, and chamomile are layered over subtler hints of honey and clove.
Yacuri sits within a protected biosphere reserve in the southern region of Loja, Ecuador. Its equatorial location provides 12 hours of consistent sunlight every day of the year, creating predictable cherry ripening each season. Morning mists cool the cherries, allowing slow and even fruit development. Diverse topography across the farm creates distinct microclimates – lower slopes yield caramel and chocolate flavor profiles, while upper elevations generate citrus and floral notes.
They handle their washed processing with care. It begins with selective hand harvesting and density sorting. Then, optical scanning removes any defects before final hand sorting and controlled drying. The resulting cup profile is a soft, clean, and refined expression of Typica Mejorado (a coffee variety first bred in Ecuador from a cross of Bourbon and Ethiopian heirloom genetics). Thanks to CafExporto for their precise work in maintaining high-quality standards for this lot; it’s a beauty!
