I'm excited to introduce this blend combining two exceptional lots from young Colombian producers. Expect fresh florals up front (think jasmine and honeysuckle), followed by distinctive hops notes and a juicy clementine sweetness and acidity that balance everything beautifully. A subtle pine sap aroma adds a pleasant, resinous quality to the cup. This blend brings together Alejandro Ariza's washed community lot from La Argelia, Cauca, and Andrés Martínez's Caturra Floral lot from El Sendero, Cauca. Both producers represent a new generation of Colombian coffee farmers focused on innovation and quality.
Alejandro founded 1040 Inza Coffee to improve local coffee quality and support community initiatives. He spent three years identifying producers in the region who can deliver exceptional cups, building loyalty through fair prices, and focusing on the area's signature floral intensity and creaminess. The unique geography – located between three volcanoes (Huila, Sotará, and Puracé) – contributes to fertile, mineral-rich soils that produce aromatic coffees with distinctive yellow fruit notes.
Andrés, a biochemical engineer with deep coffee-growing roots, owns two farms in Cauca where he grows different varieties, including Geisha, Chiroso, Bourbon Rosado, and Sidra. When processing this lot, he ferments whole cherries in tanks with beer yeast for 48 hours before depulping, followed by a second fermentation with water for 24 hours. Drying the beans happens in three stages over 12-18 days. The result is delicate florality and exceptional balance.
This marks my first collaboration with Unblended Coffee, founded by siblings Lucas and Sofia, who are dedicated to making coffee farming an exciting and viable career path for young people. Through their Young Producer Program, they guide each member in building their own coffee project, helping them to position their brand internationally and improve profitability through differentiated products. I'm delighted to work with them – the next generation of coffee farmers is young and needs support to help this industry thrive.
